How it's worked out
Adding VAT
Multiply the price by 0.15 to get the tax, then add it. 100 riyals becomes 115.
Taking VAT out
Divide the total by 1.15 to get the price before tax. The difference is the VAT. 115 riyals is 100 plus 15 tax.
Why not just take 15% off?
Because the tax was worked out on the lower price. 15% of 115 is 17.25, which is more than the 15 riyals of tax actually in it.
